Here’s what we were up to in Term 2
As we approach the end of another successful term at Think Digital Academy, we are filled with immense pride and gratitude for the achievements and experiences we’ve shared. This term has been vibrant and enriching, full of memorable events that have brought our online community closer together. We are delighted to share some of the highlights with you.
Apart from academics, our online school was able to sneak in a few more fun events! Here’s what we were up to in Term 2.
Visit to the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital for World Book Day
One of the standout moments this term was our visit to the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital. We had the opportunity to learn about the incredible work being done at this world-class facility. The experience was both educational and inspiring, highlighting the importance of healthcare and the spirit of giving back to the community. In spirit of World Book Day, the staff at Think Digital thought there was no better way to celebrate their love for reading and books, than to share stories and create book marks with the kids in hospital.
Meet and greets in the park
We also organised several meet and greets in local parks, allowing our students and their families to connect in person. These gatherings were filled with laughter, games and the joy of making new friends. It was wonderful to see the bonds formed on our virtual campus come to life in these beautiful outdoor settings. It turns out, our students can indeed step away from their screens and have a great time outdoors! Phew!
Sensory play day
Our Sensory Play Day was a hit with students in Grades 1-4. Designed to engage all five senses, this event provided a variety of activities that were both fun and educational. From tactile play with kinetic sand to exploring different scents and sounds, the day was a fantastic way to promote sensory development and creativity. And for those wondering, yes, tasting the playdough is still not recommended!
Live virtual story time
Live Virtual Story Time sessions became a cherished part of our monthly routine. Guest readers Despina and Ursula, joined us to share their favourite stories. These sessions not only foster a love for reading but also create a sense of togetherness, even when we are miles apart. Seeing some of our students donning funny hats and costumes to bring stories to life is always a highlight.
Academic, cultural and sporting achievements
Of course, we must celebrate the academic accomplishments of our students. Despite the challenges of remote learning, our students have shown resilience and dedication. We’ve seen impressive progress across all subjects, with many students surpassing their personal goals. We’re particularly proud of our math students, who continue to prove that our online school knows how to multiply fun and divide challenges!
A special mention goes to those who participated in national cultural and sporting competitions and brought home awards and accolades.
Oops, we did it again! We won the 2024 Virtual School of The Year Award
The award is organised by Prestige Awards and was established to recognise schools with exemplary standards of education which use virtual classroom technologies to maximise student potential.
A heartfelt thank you
None of these achievements would have been possible without the unwavering support of our dedicated staff, the enthusiasm of our students, and the encouragement from parents. We extend our heartfelt thanks to each one of you for your contributions to making this term a success.
As we look forward to the next term, we are excited about the opportunities and adventures that lie ahead. Let’s continue to learn, grow and make a positive impact together.
